Deidra Mountain, PhD, is an Associate Professor of Surgery who specializes in vascular and endovascular research. She is also the Director of the Undergraduate Research Experience. In the Faculty Lounge, Dean Hauptman chatted with Dr. Mountain about her research on liposomal nanoparticle drug and gene delivery systems and how she is using it to help create therapies for patients with vascular disease. They also discussed GSM's Women in Science program, which has helped fund some of Dr. Mountain's latest work, as well as a new program called Advancing Access to Careers in Medicine Scholars Program (AACMSP) that Dr. Mountain assisted in launching. AACMSP is designed to help undergraduate students, particularly from historically underrepresented groups in medicine and science, gain access to experiences in translational and clinical research.
